The Sr Automation Engineer is responsible for execution in continuous improvement and cost savings objectives while providing support and expertise in the area of process equipment software and controls. This role will lead the events and projects to reduce operating cost through improved process control and machine reliability. This position will maintain projects and is responsible for achieving operational excellence.


Assist in the development of the one-year and three- year implementation plans to satisfy management’s OpEx vision and the site’s business objectives.
Develop training programs and systems for implemeting and sustaining the 6S, kanban, quick changeover, mistakeproofing, and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) throughout the focus factory. Implement these processes as the basis for the OpEx efforts.
Design new or replacement control systems and develop new or re-write existing software code for manufacturing process equipment to include componentry such as HMI, solenoids, servo motors, vision systems, safety circuits and fiber optic / laser sensors.
Ability to successfully manage multiple projects at once.

Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s), ISO 13485 regulations and Good Housekeeping procedures.
Perform studies of existing conditions related to the problem presented and analyze required changes to achieve increased production output and/or reduce product/process defects and waste.
Ability to redesign existing machine components to improve performance. This may include adding or modifying sensors, brackets or stations. This would also include any associated machine guarding to ensure employee safety.
Coordinate and lead OpEx meetings and Kaizen events.
Provide weekly/monthly OpEx updates including key metrics to the organization, and maintain Lean manufacturing visuals throughout the focus factory.
Use and understand Statistical based software and Quality tools (i.e., Process Maps, C&E Matrix, FMEA, and Design of Experiments) for warranting process changes or continuous improvements.
Establish quarterly milestones and provide monthly reports to Manager covering progress against these milestones.
Ensure complete financial documentation for continuous improvement projects. Review monthly financial results with the accounting department for accuracy.
Compose and execute validations and changes per the change control process.
Perform project presentations to the plant staff and other personnel as required.
Contribute as a Team Leader or Champion of CAPA projects as directed.

Bachelor’s degree (BS) in Engineering/Technology, or related from an accredited (4) year college or university.
(5) years in plant manufacturing or engineering experience with demonstrated process improvement success.
Experience in an automated manufacturing environment that is FDA regulated.
Lean / Six Sigma Certifications. (Six Sigma Black Belt Certification preferred.)
Thorough knowledge of Allen Bradley PLC programming, vision systems, robotics and operator interfaces.
Thorough knowledge of Rockwell Automation programming platforms including RSLogix 5000, RSLogix 500 Factory Talk View (RS View) HMI software and RS Network.
Working knowledge of electrical control system theory, design, and automation practices.
Working knowledge of electrical controls, motors, and feedback components required.
Ability to DRIVE CHANGE, work independently, and set own priorities.
Ability to plan, organize and prioritize with demonstrated project management experience.
Ability to work on multiple, changing priorities and the ability to work a flexible schedule.Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
